The Blue Jays star third baseman Josh Donaldson will miss the next 10 days as he heals a calf injury. How should you react to the news?

The injuries just keep coming. Luckily, this one doesn’t seem to be as serious. Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson will miss the next 10 days with a calf injury. He’s one of the top-five third basemen in fantasy so this affects a lot of fantasy owners. Let’s see how to manage the next two weeks.

Donaldson was dealing with a calf injury during the spring. He made his first Grapefruit League appearance on March 28, just days before Opening Day. Donaldson was able to start in eight games for the Blue Jays.

In his nine games, he has a .310/.429/.586 line with two home runs, four RBI and five runs. Donaldson also has a 12:6 K:BB ratio. He left the April 9 game with right calf tightness and did not start on April 11. He then served as the team’s designated hitter for the next couple of games before leaving Thursday’s game.

Donaldson aggravated his right calf injury. The Blue Jays sit at 1-8 and losing Donaldson for almost two weeks is not how the continue this month. He is the only Toronto hitter with an average over .300 and multiple home runs.

The Blue Jays selected the contract of Chris Coghlan to take his place, as first reported by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. You can also expect Darwin Barney and Ryan Goins to pick up some playing time too.

If you’re one of the thousands that own Donaldson, you’ll be in need of a replacement. Unless you have a corner infielder that can slot in his spot, here are some available options.

With Adrian Beltre suffering a setback to his own injury, Joey Gallo will get a longer look with the Texas Rangers. He’s owned in just 11.5 percent of ESPN leagues.

David Freese is hitting the ball well in Pittsburgh, .381 average. He is owned in just 8.3 percent of leagues. Eugenio Suarez is also making good use of his at-bats but he may not be available in your league. He’s owned in almost half of ESPN leagues.

The Donaldson injury is the newest of a long list of injuries. Blue Jays management doesn’t expect him to need longer than the minimum 10 days. Still, losing his production this early in the season is a big setback. You just have to wait it out and hope that it doesn’t come back in a few weeks.
