Brewers Scooter Gennett: Second Base Help in the Final Week

Brewers second baseman Scooter Gennett is driving in a lot of runs over the last two weeks. If you need that kind of production on your team, then add him now.

The Milwaukee Brewers offense has been basically average throughout the month of September. The team ranks 15th in runs scored and 14th in RBI. One of the contributors to the scoring is second baseman Scooter Gennett. If you need scoring help in the final week of the season, he is someone worth adding to your team.

Gennett isn’t the most well-known name among fantasy circles. He went undrafted in ESPN leagues. As of this writing, he is owned in 10.5 percent of leagues. His most recent production upped his value in the last week of the season.

Over the last 30 games, 24 starts, Gennett is tied for second among Brewers hitters with 16 RBI. He also has 14 runs scored, four home runs and a .263 batting average. His .311 on-base percentage is due to 26 hits and six walks in that span. If he could steal a few bases, he would be even more valuable.

Gennett had an off-day and a couple of pinch hit opportunities over the last month. However, even with the rest, Gennett has been productive when given the chance to play a full game.

He spends of his time hitting in the top-third of the batting order, in front of Ryan Braun and Chris Carter, which gives him plenty of scoring chances.

If Gennett can rack up a couple of more multi-hit games, fantasy owners will enjoy a higher batting average and chance to score and drive in more runs.

Gennett and the Brewers (not a bad folk rock band name) end the season on the road. They begin a three-game series with the Texas Rangers on Monday and then finish with a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies.

Both Globe Life Park and Coors Field rank in the top 10 in runs scored and top 15 in home runs. This will add to Gennett’s value as a hitter in the final week of the season.

Gennett is one of the most-added middle infielders with an increase of 4.7 percent ownership over the last week. The New York Mets have a couple of middle infielders that are widely available, Asdrubal Cabrera and T.J. Rivera, but if they are both owned, Gennett is the next best option.
