Domingo Santana is heating up at the plate for the Brewers. After missing most of the season to injury, could he finally be worth adding again?

The fantasy playoffs now enter their second week, and for those owners that are still alive, the competition is getting tougher and the matchups are even closer. Finding players this late in the season on the waiver wire that can make a difference is a tough task, but there are options that exist. Domingo Santana, is a prime example, and one that both the Brewers and fantasy owners should be intrigued by.

Santana entered the season as a popular breakout candidate, after showing compelling power numbers with the Brew Crew to end the 2015 season. As he would go on to be a popular mid-round selection in the spring, fantasy owners held out hope that the talent, and friendly hitting environment would boost him up the ranks. Unfortunately, an elbow injury would derail Santana’s entire season, and those fantasy hopes.

More from Fantasy Baseball

The elbow ailment would sideline Santana permanently in early June, and after numerous setbacks, he would not resurface till mid-August. Since rejoining the team, he has worked his way back into being a starter, and has heated up in September. After going 0-4 on Sept. 2, he has sixteen hits over the last fourteen games. Giving him a, .372/5 HR/10 RBI/1 SB/9 R/1.204 OPS line, for the month.

It finally seems as though he is getting things going again, and just like last season, his late season heroics could pay huge dividends. Fantasy owners need to ignore his ugly seasonal line, and see the value adding Santana brings. He is still a huge dude, standing in at 6’5/220 lbs., and the fantasy friendly supporting class in Milwaukee is still intact.

Domingo Santana has been slotted in the five hole as of late, allowing him to take full advantage of the seasons that Jonathan Villar, Ryan Braun, and Chris Carter are having. The counting stats are there to be had, so add the fact that he is swinging the bat well right now, and what you have is a recipe for success.

If that does not encourage you enough, Santana gets the upcoming slate of both the Pirates and Reds at Miller Park this week, clearly two pitching staff that leave a lot to be desired.

Now that owners are in the nitty-gritty of the fantasy playoffs, exploiting matchups becomes paramount. Santana is hot at the plate, has the raw ability, solid supporting class, and an upcoming schedule that all bode well in proving he should be a waiver wire add. Make the move.
