With the rosters expanding, The Dodgers decided to bring back Yasiel Puig. After the success he had in Triple-A, is he worth adding to your roster?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have had a hectic 2016 season. I’ve talked about the starting pitching situation multiple times. The team also had to deal with a struggled star in Yasiel Puig. He was sent to the minors on August 1 due to poor performance. However, he’s been crushing it in Triple-A and the Dodgers brought him back with the expansion.

With his success and immediate start in the lineup on Friday, is he worth adding to your roster in the last couple of weeks?

Puig ended April with a .250/.313/.398 with two home runs, nine RBI and 10 runs. He missed some time in June and, by the time he was sent to Triple-A, he had a .260/.320/.386 line. The Dodgers traded for Josh Reddick for outfield depth, but hasn’t hit well in LA.

More from Fantasy Baseball

Puig has played 19 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City. In that span, he has a .348/.400/.594 line with four homers, 12 RBI, 12 runs and a 8:6 K:BB ratio. I’m not sure if he needed a reset or it finally clicked that the Dodgers had enough of his antics, but he looks like the player that management thought he could be.

While it hasn’t been announced, Puig will make his return to Los Angeles on Friday. The Dodgers do not have anything to lose. The rosters expanded, so if he doesn’t hit well then back to the bench he goes. If he can bring his Triple-A performance to the majors, the Dodgers are a perennial threat to win the World Series.

As far as fantasy baseball is concerned, I would take a flyer on Puig. With limited experienced players on the waiver wire, he could help you in the final weeks of the fantasy season. Puig is going to start on a regular basis and, at this point in the season, that’s hard to find.

Because of all the back-and-forth between the Dodgers and Puig, fantasy owners dropped him as quickly as they could. As a result, he’s only owned in 25 percent of ESPN leagues. If you need someone with power potential and could steal a base or two, Puig is the guy to own.
