Fantasy Baseball: Week 15 Top 3 Waiver Wire Pitchers
The All-Star break is now behind us and the second half of the MLB season has begun. Here are the top fantasy baseball waiver wire pitchers to add.
Many leagues, in this longer week ahead, will allow for more starts than the average fantasy baseball week. This is due to the additional three days added on in this particular match up. A regular occurrence during All-Star week. Here are some pitchers that can help you win this week and come fantasy playoff time.
- Hector Santiago (SP) – Angels
My number one acquisition this week is a man who dominated the majors for the better part of last season. Santiago appears to be back on the track to success this season after a rather dull first half. After the past two rough months with ERA’s over 6.00 and going 2-3, the month of July has begun to show promise for the 28-year-old.
In three starts in the month of July, Santiago has only surrendered one run (no earned). In 20 innings pitched he has only given up 12 hits and has accumulated 20 strikeouts. His ERA has dropped from 5.27 down to 4.27 in this time. That is a whole run in just three starts. His success does date back to June however, as the left-hander has given up no more than one earned run in five of his last six starts.

Santiago is owned in less than 25 percent of ESPN leagues out there. He will be a nice grab especially for those of you headed for the playoffs. On the year, he is 7-4 with 93 strikeouts. His ERA has been declining with every passing start as of recent.
2. Nick Tropeano (SP) – Angels
Nick Tropeano has been a big time sleeper for the Los Angeles Angels. Unfortunately, the Angels are not headed anywhere this season, but that does not mean he can’t contribute to your fantasy baseball team’s success. He has put up quality stats all season long and can help your team this week and for the rest of the season.
Through the first half of the season, Tropeano has thrown for 66.1 innings with 66 K’s and only 67 hits allowed. He is averaging close to a strikeout per inning which fantasy owners love to see. He is giving up just a hit per inning which is highly encouraging for the young man. He is only 25-years-old and has gotten better with each passing season.
What really sticks out to me is his low 3.12 ERA. He does not surrender runs too often. He also has only one negative point start on the year. If that doesn’t catch your eye, I don’t know what will. He can be a phenomenal back-end starter for your squad.
He is owned in just 8.8 percent of leagues, so he is readily available for the majority of owners to snag. He will start twice this week.

3. Miguel Gonzalez (SP) – White Sox
Miguel Gonzalez has shown exceptional promise throughout his five-year MLB career. He has looked solid for most of this season, however he has been prone to blow up on the mound from time to time, surrendering five plus runs on multiple occasions. He has looked better on the mound recently.
During the past two weeks of work, Gonzalez ranks in the top 40 for starting pitchers in terms of fantasy points. Throughout the month of July, Gonzalez has thrown three quality starts with a 1.80 ERA. He has certainly impressed throwing for 20 innings and giving up just 13 hits and four earned runs.
Gonzalez is not even owned in two percent of ESPN leagues. It is understandable due to the fact that he has blown up every couple of starts. This undoubtedly has kept fantasy baseball owners away. On the season, the right-hander has a 2-5 record with 57 strikeouts and a 4.28 ERA. His ERA was over 5.00 coming into the month of July.
The White Sox will head into Seattle this week to take on the Mariners. With Gonzalez’s recent rise in the past couple of weeks, I like his chances to throw another quality start.
