Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon will be returning from his 80-game suspension on July 29. He is available in about half of ESPN leagues.

The Miami Marlins are about to add another piece to the puzzle as they continue their battle in the National League East. All-star second baseman Dee Gordon is almost done with his suspension, eligible for return on July 29. If he’s available in your league, and he could be, pick him up now

While we should all frown on his use of PEDs, Gordon has been one of the best second basemen in fantasy. He had 205 hits, 58 steals and a .333 average in 145 games. Though, this season got off to a slow start.

In 21 games, he had 25 hits, .266 average and just six steals in eight attempts. He still ranks No. 45 among all second basemen.

The Marlins have played well in Dee Gordon’s absence. The team is 31-25 and 6.5 games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East. Getting him back in the lineup with spark the offense and create a division race worth watching.

It may seem obvious that he’ll slot right back in at second base, but that may not be the case. His replacement, Derek Dietrich, is playing well in Gordon’s place. In 69 games, he has a .301/.394/.440 line with 63 hits and a 44:19 K:BB ratio.

He doesn’t have nearly the same speed Dee Gordon does, he’s been getting on base sufficiently to warrant a starting job. Maybe they can move one of them to shortstop since Adeiny Hechavarria is hitting .246/.279/.345 and let the other play second base.

Regardless of how it happens, we all know Gordon will be back in the Marlins lineup the day he is eligible to do so. Which is why it is fascinating that he is owned in just 50.4 percent of ESPN leagues.

I understand that, for Gordon owners, it would be difficult to keep him on your bench for 80 games. You couldn’t put him in your DL spot and add someone as a replacement. So, it makes sense that owners, especially those in standard leagues, would drop him.

What I’m saying is that if you’re in a league where that happened, pick him up.

If you do pick him Dee Gordon, you should expect immediate results. He will impact your batting average and obviously steals for the final two months of the season. He could be that difference maker you add to climb up the ranks and make the playoffs.

If you have the bench room, why not drop someone and take a flyer on him? You can change your mind on him as we get closer to his return date, anyway.
