Surging Matt Shoemaker Still Readily Available

Matt Shoemaker has had one of the hottest hands on the mound over the past month and is at direct disposal for many fantasy owners. Don’t let him rot in free agency.

Matt Shoemaker over the course of his MLB career, has been the benchmark of inconsistency. If you have previously or currently own him, he is the type of pitcher to go out and dominate for a few starts, and then blowup for a stretch of time. Often times he can cost you a win due to his implosions, giving up six or more runs on more than one occasion.

So, the only thing he has been consistent at is being inconsistent.

Matt Shoemaker has been in and out of the minors due to these struggles. It has been difficult for him to piece together a decent run in the majors. However, he may finally have figured out his pitches as he has been dominating the league as of recent. He has had nine straight positive point starts which fantasy owners have not seen thus far in his career.

He would be having an even more impressive season if the Angels could score enough to help him win games. He currently sports an ugly 3-8 record for Los Angeles this season.

Shoemaker had a rough April to start the season where he posted a horrid 9.15 ERA in five starts. Since April, he has brought his ERA all the way down to 4.12, where it currently stands today. The Angels right-hander is in the midst of his best month of his career.

During the month of June, Matt Shoemaker has a very impressive 2.14 ERA. He has given up just 10 runs in 42 innings pitched this month. Not to mention he also has 45 strikeouts during this period as well. Averaging over a strikeout per inning is highly profound from the 29-year-old.

Shoemaker over the past month ranks in the top 20 in fantasy points for starting pitchers, up there with the likes of Madison Bumgarner, Cole Hamels, and Chris Sale. On the season, he is 3-8 with a 4.12 ERA, as previously stated, with 90 K’s as well. With his recent dominance over the past month, it is certainly surprising to see Shoemaker available in nearly half (50.3%) of ESPN fantasy leagues.

Matt Shoemaker has certainly found his stride this year. He has the ability to be one of the games elite in terms of pitching. As long as he can continue to limit his bad outings, Shoemaker should be a force to be reckoned with for a number of years. He is more than worth a pick up for your team at the current time.

There aren’t too many reliable pitchers up for grabs, especially in deeper leagues, but Shoemaker is one of them.
