Mid-season is right around the corner. It is time to start forming a playoff team. Here are some players off the waiver wire that can help you get there.

The All-Star break is nearing closer and closer with every passing day. Some players may be hitting their mid-season slumps and owners can’t wait for them to hit the All-Star break. If your team is lacking in the utility/DH position, this article is certainly worth a read for you. This article will feature some of the games ‘old reliable” players are at long last hitting their strides and can help your team in the upcoming weeks. Where does your team currently stand?

  1. Kendrys Morales (DH) – Royals

Kendrys Morales has been under the radar this year due to his lack of production for the Kansas City Royals for much of the season. Morales has been a great fantasy player over the past few seasons and is heating up again here in the month of June. Sadly, he can only be used as a DH or utility player for you now, but that is no reason to not pick him up. Morales was a fantasy machine for much of last season where he ultimately helped the Royals to a World Series title.

Morales has shown signs of being the fantasy stud we have seen in recent years over the past month. Over the course of June, Morales has hit for a highly impressive .324 batting average. He has had his most productive month this season here where he has knocked in four home runs and 14 RBI as well.

Batting in the Kansas City lineup, he will always be a threat to score and knock in runs. We have all seen what that lineup can do in high pressure situations. They are one of the best lineups I have seen play the game, and that is with Morales being there everyday DH.

Morales will be there for the taking as he is only owned in 24.5% of ESPN fantasy leagues out there. With him scoring roughly four fantasy points a game over the past two weeks, he can have a significant effect for your squad heading into the All-Star break. So far this season, Morales is batting .231 with 10 long balls and 35 RBI. Most of the production coming in the month of June, so keep an eye on him.

2. Prince Fielder (DH) – Rangers

Prince Fielder is another aging player like that of Morales who also appears to be hitting a stride mid way through the season. Fielder has certainly not looked like himself this season. Fantasy owners wish to see him back to form, where he was one of the top baseball and fantasy players the game has seen. After a lackluster first couple of months for Fielder, he has heated up recently and could be worth a pick up.

Fielder comes into this week riding an eight game hitting streak where he has hit two home runs and five RBI. Those home runs coming in two of his last three games played. To start the week, he will be heading to New York where he and the Rangers will take on the Yankees. Yankee Stadium is very much so a hitter friendly park, especially for lefties, which Fielder just so happens to be.

So far on the season, Fielder is batting for a .211 average with seven home runs and 39 RBI. Don’t let these statistics fool you, however. Prince has greatly improved in the month of June where he has accumulated four of those seven home runs. He has hit for .257 this past month, which is an immense improvement  from his .194 average coming into June.

Prince is improving as the season rolls on. He is up for grabs in nearly 40% of ESPN leagues due to his slow start to the season. Don’t look at what he has done over the course of the season thus far; however, I ask for you to look at his recent stats, as they are improving day by day.

Prince can be a great pick up for you for the rest of the season. He still has the power, and will have a great chance to show it this upcoming week playing some of the weaker pitching staffs in the MLB. He will face both the Yankees as previously stated as well as the struggling Minnesota Twins.

3. Justin Bour (1B) – Marlins

Justin Bour for the Miami Marlins, has been not only one of the top scoring fantasy first basemen over the past couple of weeks, but one of the overall leaders in fantasy points. Bour ranks up there with the likes of Mike Trout, Paul Goldschmidt, and Josh Donaldson during this span. Bour is only 28 and has improved every year he has been in the league. I predict he will be a great fantasy player for years to come.

Bour has been an absolute machine as of recent. Just this past week, he had three straight games with a home run and multiple RBI, and has also scored a run in his past five games he has played in. He has a .327 batting average in the month of June and is really hitting his stride here in 2016. He has been averaging over five fantasy points a game in recent weeks. A stat which should be valued by fantasy owners everywhere.

Despite his recent surge, the Marlins first basemen is only owned in 35.5% of leagues this season. So far this year, Bour has hit for .270 with 14 homers and a very impressive 43 RBI. If he is able to sustain this pace, which he is more than capable of, he may have himself his first 30+ home run / 100+ RBI season for Miami. Bour is probably the most reliable and certainly the least well-known of all of these players, so grab him while you can.

Next: Stephen Strasburg to the DL
