The Mets collective hearts sank as both Noah Syndergaard and Yoenis Cespedes left Wednesday’s game early. The news seems to be positive for both players.

The New York Mets could have possibly been without two of their top players for a lengthy period of time. Luckily for the players and the Mets organization, it doesn’t seem too serious.

Star pitcher Noah Syndergaard left Wednesday’s game early after feeling some discomfort in his elbow. And, of course, everyone’s first thought was Tommy John surgery. Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left early because of a sprained wrist and is listed day-to-day.

Fantasy owners of Noah Syndergaard should let out a huge sigh of relief. He is free to go about his normal routine and will take anti-inflammatory medication to help with the discomfort. Syndergaard is a two-start pitcher for Week 13, facing the Washington Nationals on the road Monday and home against the Jake Arrieta and the Chicago Cubs Saturday. His fantasy owners are pumping their fists at the good news following the injury scare.

Cespedes’ situation is a little trickier. He felt wrist pain during his at-bat in the fifth inning. He received a cortisone shot and will miss a few games, but a DL stint isn’t expected.

Any long-term injury to either of these players would have had a big impact on the Mets’ chances to win the National League East, 3.5 games back of the Washington Nationals, and fantasy owners looking to make a playoff push. Both are owned in over 99 percent of ESPN leagues.

If I were looking to add a power bat to my team, I would start talking to the Cespedes owner. Play up the injury and try to buy low on him. He is having another career year, 18 HR/44 RBI/.290/.362/.584. I think the recommended time off should be enough for the wrist. I don’t think it will affect him for the rest of the season.

Both Syndergaard and Cespedes left Wednesday with minor injuries. Cespedes will miss the games this weekend and the beginning of next week while Noah Syndergaard will be good to go for Monday’s start. Let’s just hope it was something minor for him and not the signs of something worse.
