Salvador Perez looks to be out for the next week or so, leaving fantasy owners in need of a replacement. So what is the injury fallout and who could be some waiver wire replacements?

What is it with the Kansas City Royals and collisions?

After losing both Alex Gordon and MIke Moustakas to a collision, the Royals will now be without Sal Perez after he managed to be involved in one as well.

Luckily for the Royals and fantasy owners alike, Perez only suffered a quad contusion and will be out 7-10 days. But, with him being out at least close to a week, fantasy owners need to find a replacement off the wire.

The bad thing about losing Perez, besides the benefit of him being an insert and forget, is that he was just starting to get hot at the plate. He currently sits with a, .277/7 HR/25 RBI season line, and over the last seven games he was batting over .420 at the plate.

Fantasy production from catchers is usually hard to come by, besides power, but this season it seems that production at the position is at an all time low. Thus, the waiver wire options are ugly to say the least.

It is definitely slim pickings, so fantasy owners are better off trying to snag guys that are hot. One of the more notable options out there in most leagues is, Russell Martin.

Martin has been abysmal at the plate this season as fantasy owners were forced to cut bait long before this week. But, over the last week or so, his bat has come alive and he at least looks like the power source he was last season. Over that span he has posted a, .286/3 HR/6 RBI/1.110 OPS line, so over the next week or so, he looks like the best gamble.

For those looking for options outside of the box, guys like Cameron Rupp or Bobby Wilson could do as they are both hitting the ball well lately. Rupp has notched a homer and has batted .375 over the last seven games. While journeyman, Bobby Wilson, is batting .478 with a homer and four RBI over that stretch.

There is not anyone on the wire that has the upside that a Perez would have, so fantasy owners will have to look at some hot hands. The good news is that it is a temporary add for about a week so if the replacement sucks, you can cut him with ease.
