Top prospect, Julio Urias, has gotten the call from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Should fantasy owners now make him a priority waiver wire add?

Julio Urias will debut on Friday in place of Alex Wood. The Dodgers have not been shy in promoting their top prospects as we saw with Corey Seager last season, so Urias could have just as much impact on the club if given an extended opportunity.

Urias is 19-years-old and was signed by the Dodgers when he was only 16. He has been highly touted since then and he has not failed to live up to the hype in the minors. His minor league career ERA is 2.63, which is amazing considered he has been forced to face competition that is always older than he is.

He has pitched at AAA of all of this season and the results have been downright silly. He currently has a, 1.10 ERA, 44 K, 0.78 WHIP, and 8 BB line, over seven starts and 41 IP.While it did take an injury to Alex Wood for him to make his debut, the Dodgers were going to be hard pressed to keep ignoring his dominance.

For fantasy owners, Julio Urias’ arsenal and polished pitching approach looks the part of a valuable addition. The skill set is certainly there, a mid-90s fastball, sharp curveball that he can vary velocities with, and diving changeup. His delivery provides deception, but is also repeatable, so the package is all there.

He gets a tough test versus the Mets, but like he has been doing his entire career, facing the toughest competition is where he thrives. After his Friday start there is no guarantee that he will stick around whether he pitches well or not, but it’s silly to think that Julio Urias wouldn’t be one of the best starting options they have behind Clayton Kershaw moving forward.

With his pedigree and sky-high upside, Julio Urias is a must add. Whether he sticks around after his start or later into the season, it is clear that he will make an impact this season. Make the move because Urias is well worth a gamble.
