Nathan Eovaldi has been solid over his last four starts for the New York Yankees. With his upside, should fantasy owners make a must add off the waiver wire?

The New York Yankees have been the hottest team in baseball since May 6th, and that success has largely been tied to their starting rotation turning things around. One pitcher in particular is, Nathan Eovaldi, who is 4-0 with a 2.40 ERA over his last four starts.

Fantasy owners are well familiar with Eovaldi since his early days with the Dodgers, as his velocity has always been as advertised. When he was traded to the Marlins it always seemed as though he could never really turn the corner, which is a problem he still battles.

But, over this stretch of his four latest starts, he has looked as polished on the mound as ever before. He has averaged 6 IP, 6 K, and no more than three runs during this recent stretch. Eovaldi will always bring the velocity, but the development of his secondary pitches and command, are the key to his success.

It is also encouraging to see his FIP, 3.67, and his career low 1.15 WHIP this season. He is only 26-years-old, so there is still room for him to keep developing even further, but fantasy owners have to be intrigued by what they have seen so far.

He next start will come on May 29th against a banged up Royals squad, making him a decent add and insert this week. His ERA on the season is 3.95, which is admittedly a little high fantasy wise, but if not for a 5 ER start against the Astros to begin the season and a 6 ER effort against the Red Sox in the beginning on May, we can see why his ERA is still bloated.

Fantasy owners should add Eovaldi while he is hot and as he just looks more refined on the bump. He still has a 8.2 SO/9, so the K output should be there and with the Yankees he has shown the knack to notch Wins as well. All the signs seem to be pointing up and this may be the season he finally puts it all together, so make the move.
