Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins has been placed on the 15-day DL. As a result, Kevin Jepsen is the next man up. So, add him if you need saves.

The Minnesota Twins 2016 season has not gotten off to the best start. They currently sit at 0-7. Yes, they have not won a game yet. The hits (or lackthereof) keep coming. The club announced on Wednesday afternoon that closer Glen Perkins will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain. If you are one of the 63 percent of ESPN owners that own him, go out and pick up Kevin Jepsen

Perkins struggled in his first two appearances this season. He pitched in two innings, giving up two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three. He recorded a blown save on Sunday against the Kansas City Royals.

The Twins haven’t had many leads for the bullpen to protect, so it’s hard to project who exactly will take over as the closer. But, Jepsen has the best chance to pitch in the ninth inning. However, his season hasn’t gone as planned either.

He’s made three appeareances, pitching in 2.2 innings and gave up three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three batters. He has two losses, a blown save and a loss in those games. He does have closer experience as he racked up 10 saves and a 1.61 ERA in 29 games with the Twins in the second half of last season.

If you are in a deeper league, Trevor May could get some opportunities as well. In four games (5.2 innings), he has two earned runs, five hits, three walks and 10 strikeouts. He’s owned in just 1.9 percent of leagues.

Jepsen is owned in just 14.2 percent of leagues. If you need a small boost in saves, pick him up. There is currently no timetable for Perkins return, so Jepsen could have the role for a while. If you can, stash Glen Perkins in your DL spot, unless there is an announcement he’s out for the year.
