Brock Holt had a torrid spring, and forced the Boston Red Sox to pencil him in as the starting LF. The early returns are looking good, so should owners make him a waiver wire must add?

The Boston Red Sox have invested a lot of money into players that they viewed as cornerstones for their club, but not all investments provide a return. While missing on these high dollar investments can ruin a franchise, players like Brock Holt can step up and become invaluable.

Brock Holt came over to Boston in 2013 and he has been one of the most vital pieces for the team thanks to his ability to fill any hole that the team has. He will not make the headlines for his staggering production, but he can play anywhere on the diamond and swing it pretty well.

In 2014, he actually finished 8th in the Rookie of the Year contest and was named to the A.L. All-Star team. last season He finished the 2015 season playing in 129 games and posted a, .280 AVG/2 HR/45 RBI/8 SB/.727 OPS. Nothing overly amazing, but an absolutely great line for a utility guy.

This spring he just kept hitting, and the Red Sox had no choice to but to reward Brock Holt with the LF job over the ever disappointing, Rusney Castillo. So far this season, not only has his power been a surprise, but also the fact that he has been carrying team with his production.

After three games he is hitting .500, has 2 HR and has knocked in 8 RBI. Yesterday against the Jays, his clutch grand slam late in the game capped off the Red Sox five run comeback. Point being, Holt has become a staple of the lineup and his playing time will longer be in question as the team will make sure he gets at bats.

The Red Sox will contend with the best of the best lineups in the league, so even though Brock Holt will bat in the lower half of the order, his counting stats will not suffer. Fenway is obviously a great hitter’s park, just like most of the other A.L. East ballparks. He won’t hit 20 HR, but we could see him flirt with 10 this season. Speed wise, he did steal 12 bags in 2014 and 8 last season, so once again a safe expectation would be around 10 SB.

After his early success, he may already be off your league’s waiver wire. But, if he is still there, snag him quickly and insert him into your lineup. He is not only a Kyle Schwarber replacement, he can also be inserted anywhere in a fantasy lineup besides the C spot thanks to his eligibility.

A, .280/10 HR/60 RBI/10 SB, line is well within reach and certainly a quality line that can be added to a fantasy roster. Brock Holt does not need to have a huge ceiling to be considered a worthy pickup, as he is in a favorable situation, has multi-position eligibility, and will not hurt you in any one category.
