Deep Waiver Wire: Rajai Davis

As we past the first day of this championship week, we can continue to look for streaming options to add in order to maximize our ability to gather as many stats as possible. Just as in the case of pitchers, it serves to target hitters that are in midst of hot stretches to end the season.

One of the more intriguing options on the wire right now, is Rajai Davis. He is a proven speed threat on the base paths, but he also offers modest power as well. During the 2015 season he has just not gotten the at bats that he normally does, which has hurt his season totals.

Davis has often been used in a platoon role as he showed the ability to handle lefties well. This year though his splits have been reversed which is partly why he has struggled to get consistent playing time.

His season line currently sits at, .259/8 HR/29 RBI/18 SB. Not the SB output that we are used to seeing, but it does show that Davis can be dynamic when he is playing and is hot. So far in September he is batting .346, by far his best month on the season.

The intriguing part has been that instead of steals being his biggest stat contribution, it has actually been his power output. On the month he has 4 HR and 11 RBI as well, once again season highs across the board.

I believe that his current hot streak is a direct result of his getting consistent playing time over the last six games, where he has really made his mark. He has a six game hit streak and over this streak he has posted a .417/1 HR/3RBI/4 R line.

Davis is by no means a sexy option and has basically become just a speed addition for owners at this point of his career. But, his current hot streak does deserve consideration from owners as he provides just enough across all categories to become an actual factor these last handful of games.

He gets the Rangers and White Sox to close the season, both in their respective hitter friendly ballparks, so the situation provides plenty of potential value. Davis may miss another start for matchup purposes, but for owners that could be looking for a potential wildcard OF to add, Davis should get a look.
