Tim Hudson: Saturday Streaming Option

The San Francisco Giants have a small chance to win the NL West. And an even smaller chance to win one of the Wild Card spots. However, the team is still playing all of its star players and staying competitive until the end of the season. If you are like the Giants and still competitive this late into the season, there is a starting pitcher you want to pick up, and his name is Tim Hudson.

Hudson has been a journeyman, starting his career with the Oakland Athletics and currently with the Giants with nine years in Atlanta in between. He has a career 3.48 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 6.0 K/9. Not the best numbers, but there were a couple of seasons that skewed the numbers, this year being one of them.
In his first 10 starts of the season, Tim Hudson went 3-4 with a 4.62 ERA and .277 opposing batting average. June wasn’t any better and then he missed most of July. After two starts, he missed all of August. He then made a couple of relief appearances before rejoining the rotation on Sept. 8.
In his three starts since that date, Hudson has a 2-0 record with a 1.10 ERA and .200 opposing batting average. His most recent outing was a six-inning shutout against Paul Goldschmidt and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Tim Hudson makes his next start on Saturday against his original team, facing his longtime teammate Barry Zito. Wait, what year is it? Anyway, the matchup against the A’s is in Hudson’s favor. The A’s are hitting .242 with 100 runs scored this month. While the lineup doesn’t strike out often, only 163 in 21 games, they don’t get on base either, .309 OBP.

If you are looking for a pitcher to get you a win (or quality start), Tim Hudson is that guy. If you are looking to add a starting pitcher to help with strikeouts, I’d look somewhere else. His season-high strikeouts are six, which he threw three times.
Regardless, fantasy owners are in favor of adding the 40-year-old pitcher. He’s been added in 3.5 percent of ESPN.com leagues. While it may seem like a small number, considering how many owners are actually paying attention at this point, it’s significant.
I wouldn’t trust him for the rest of the season, even though he has two or three starts left. But for this matchup against the A’s, Tim Hudson is a great streaming option for Saturday’s game.
