Jeremy Hellickson: 9/14 Streaming Option

Fantasy baseball is rounding third and heading home with just a couple of weeks left in the season. Fantasy owners are still digging through the waiver wire for a player that can help them make it to the playoffs or win a championship. If you are in the market for a streaming option, there is one player with a great matchup that you need to take advantage of. Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Jeremy Hellickson faces the San Diego Padres Monday night. With very little options available, Hellickson is a good pickup.

In his first season with the Diamondbacks, Hellickson currently has a 9-8 record with a 4.60 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 107:37 K:BB rate. While the stats aren’t pretty, he has pitched some good games this season, especially in recent weeks. He has a 3.41 ERA in the second half of the season.

In Jeremy Hellickson’s last two games, he pitched 13.1 innings, allowing just one run on 10 hits and one walk and struck out 10 batters. He won both games.

Hellickson has faced the Padres four times this season. He is 1-2 with a 7.54 ERA, 1.63 WHIP in 22.2 innings. However, he faces them in Arizona. The last time Hellickson faced the Padres at home, he went six innings and allowed two runs on six hits and struck out seven Padres.

Jeremy Hellickson was on the DL for about a month while dealing with glute tightness. While I’m weary of using a pitcher in their first start back from an injury, the matchup is too good to pass on.

The Padres are 20th in batting average, 25th in OBP and 16th in slugging percentage since the All-Star break. As you can tell, the offense in middle-of-the-road as far as their power numbers are concerned, but they aren’t scoring enough runs to win games.

Jedd GyorkoMatt Kemp and Justin Upton have 35 combined home runs since the break. Yet, they have 145 strikeouts and just 52 walks in that span. They have very little patience at the plate, so Hellickson will be able to rack up the Ks in this game.

Jeremy Hellickson is owned in a lowly 3.5 percent of ESPN.com leagues. If you are playing ina Roto league, deeper league or need a quick win (or quality start) to start this week, Hellickson is the guy to add on Monday.
