Taylor Jungmann: Waiver Wire Pickup

This season is the season of the prospect. Whether it was a superstar or an under-the-radar player, the young players are getting their opportunity. The Milwaukee Brewers are no exception. They called up pitcher Taylor Jungmann at the beginning of June, and it has paid off. If you are looking for a cheap pitching option, Jungmann is available on the waiver wire.
Jungmann wasn’t the best pitcher while in the minor leagues. In 11 games with Triple-A Colorado Springs Sky Sox, he had a 2-3 record, 6.37 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 54:29 K:BB rate. However, those numbers greatly improved when he received the call.
In eight MLB starts, Jungmann is 5-1 with a 2.04 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 39:15 K:BB rate. He has the best ERA among all Brewers pitchers. Though, he has pitched in half the innings compared to those with double the starts.

Taylor Jungmann has pitched four straight quality starts leading up to the All-Star break. He pitched nine innings of one-run ball against the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 11. He followed that up with seven innings with one earned run and five strikeouts. The former first-round pick gave up just five runs in his last 30 innings.
In a year where Mike Fiers, Kyle Lohse and Jimmy Nelson not pitching to their potential, fantasy owners are looking for other options on the Brewers. He induces a lot of ground balls, 53.7 percent, while still striking out five to seven batters per game.
His next start will be against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The DBacks are currently hitting .272/.335/.436 (seventh/sixth/fifth) with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 13 games this month. If Jungmann can shut down the Diamondbacks like he has done to the other powerful offenses he’s faced this season, he’ll be worth the pick up.
Taylor Jungmann has opened up a lot of eyes in recent weeks. He has been picked up in 22.8 percent of ESPN.com leagues, and currently sits at 41.2 percent. If you need starting pitching help this far into the season, you can do a lot worse than Jungmann.
