Miguel Gonzalez

(50) takes a moment on the pitcher

So far this month, I’m 1-1 in my streaming picks (I know, I’m slacking). I hope to make it 4-1 after the weekend. The three pitchers I picked are all on the road in their matchups. While statistics don’t favor pitchers away from home, these pitchers should have great starts regardless. If you need a boost in pitching stats in your Week 5 matchup, try to grab one or all three of these pitchers.

Miguel Gonzalez, Friday @ NYY

Gonzalez may be Baltimore’s best pitcher this season. He is 3-1 with a 2.59 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. I chose Gonzalez last month against the Tampa Bay Rays, but it didn’t pan out. I should have waited a week later because he dominated his next start. Against the New York Yankees, he went 7.0 innings of one-run baseball with four hits and 10 strikeouts. The Yankees’ offense is all or bust. It relies too heavily on Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez to hit home runs. If Gonzalez can keep the ball away from the right-field fence, he has a good chance to come out with another excellent outing. Gonzalez is owned in just 35.3 percent of ESPN.com leagues, so you have a good chance to pick him up.

Jon Niese, Saturday @ PHI

Niese is another pitcher that is facing a team he’s previously faced. He had a quality start against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 15 and will likely do it again this time. The Phillies rank second in two offensive categories, but that’s not a good thing. The offense has hit the second-fewest homeruns in baseball and scored the second-fewest runs. Niese should have no problem recording another quality start this outing. Niese has done well against the Phillies, owning a career 2.96 ERA in 20 starts against the Phillies. He’s owned in just 14.0 percent of ESPN leagues, which is surprising. Go out and grab him for this start on Saturday.

Jesse Chavez, Sunday @ SEA

I picked Chavez as a streaming pick in his last start, and it worked out well. I have no qualms with picking him again on Sunday. He faces a Seattle Mariners offense that some would think is dangerous. However, minus Nelson Cruz, the rest of the offense has struggled. The Mariners rank 24th in runs scored, 25th in RBI and 23rd in batting average. Despite owning an 0-2 record, Chavez holds a 2.48 ERA and 1.35 WHIP against the Mariners. He is my lock of the week as the best streaming option of the weekend.
