With four weeks in the books, fantasy owners are now looking to drop the dead weight and pick up a hot bat or pitcher. If you play in a deeper league, the waiver wire may be very shallow. There is a bat out there that is worth grabbing. Mark Canha of the Oakland Athletics is widely available and should be picked up.

Canha, one month into his rookie season, is playing really well. In 18 games, he has 21 hits, 12 runs, three home runs, 12 RBI and two stolen bases with a .292/.338/.458 line. He was held out of three games because of an 0-for-9 slump, but reports state he was out due to illnest. Regardless, he came back strong, hitting home runs in back-to-back games.

Canha cooled down a bit after the first week of the season. In his first six games, he had 11 hits, one home run, seven RBI and a .367 average. As long as Canha can be productive, the A’s will do their best to keep him in the starting lineup.

Canha has first base and outfield eligibility. With the depth at first base, sliding Canha into your corner infield spot in a 16-team league could be worth the add.

Even if you own Canha until he cools off again, he can still provide you with power and average. Two home runs and five RBI can push you from sixth to second in a heartbeat. Regardless of the type of league you play in, head-to-head, Roto or points, Canha’s stats for this week could win you a your matchup.

Because of the uncertainty, Canha shouldn’t be picked up in every league. There are plenty of outfielders producing more and have a guaranteed starting spot. He is owned in just 8.6 percent of ESPN.com leagues, a decline of 12.1 percent. However, with a shallow waiver-wire pool, Canha may be the best player available.
