The Miami Marlins rotation had some question marks heading into Opening Day. Until Jose Fernandez returns, the team lacks a true ace. There is a pitcher from this rotation that is doing very well, but not owned in many leagues. Jarred Cosart has had three great starts and should be picked up from the waiver wire.

Cosart was average in the season and a half he was with the Houston Astros, 10-8 record with a 3.57 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 30 starts. He was traded to Miami at the trade deadline and pitched much better for the rest of the season. He went 4-4 with a 2.39 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 10 starts.

This season has been just as good. He is 1-1 with a 2.49 ERA and 0.91 WHIP in four starts. His worst start came against the New York Mets, 5.1 innings, seven hits, five earned runs and five strikeouts. Two starts later against the Mets, Cosart dominated. He pitched eight shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks, but didn’t pick up the win.

Cosart’s next start will be against the Philadelphia Phillies. We all know the struggles around the Phillies’ offense, but if you don’t I’ll remind you. The team has 12 home runs (28th), 58 RBI (30th), .223 batting average (29th), .280 OBP (29th) and .325 slugging (29th). It’s just bad for the Phillies and Cosart should be able to take advantage of this favorable matchup.

While Cosart isn’t a big strikeout guy, he has great control and keeps the ball on the ground. He has 12 strikeouts, seven walks and two home runs allowed. He is owned in just 6.4 percent of ESPN.com leagues, a jump of 4.9 percent over the last seven days.

If you are looking to get a jump in your streaming pick for the week, Cosart is the guy to target off the waiver wire for this week and beyond.
