Taking a break from my streaming picks (let’s go Scott Feldman), I am back with a waiver wire pick for Week 2. This player has disappointed in the past, but continues to bring fantasy owners back in his good graces. After a good 2014 playoffs and 2015 spring, he picked up where he left off. If you are looking to make a move early in Week 2, pick up Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas.

The Moose isn’t a top-tier third baseman, but he had moments of when he looked like a superstar. He had 20, 15 and 12 home runs in the last three seasons. Along with his home-run totals, his batting average dropped as well. His averages from the last three years were .242, .233 and .212. He was a mid-round pick last year and let a lot of fantasy owners down early, myself being one of them.

This year looks to be a different story (how many times have we said that in the past?). In just six games, he has two home runs, two RBI and a .333 batting average. He also looks more patient at the plate. He has two walks and three strikeouts. Granted, it’s a small sample size, but he looks to be back on track.

Even if you play in a league with limited weekly transactions, I feel confident enough to use of your pick ups on Moustakas. He is batting second in the Royals’ lineup, creating more opportunities to score runs with Eric Hosmer and Kendrys Morales batting behind him.

Moustakas is currently owned in 37.7 percent of ESPN.com leagues. It increased by 34 percent over the last week. The waiver wire is a place you can win your league, or at least your matchup. If you need a productive third baseman or corner infielder, strike while the iron is hot.
