AL Sleeper Hitters

This morning’s article about sleeper pitchers reveals strong candidates to break out based on their peripherals and talent. Like I mentioned in the previous article, the easy instant access of endless information makes it quite a bit easier to discover sleepers, but you can still find the right guys if you do the right research. Also, a name that appears on the list is someone that is considered a 2015 sleeper in the fantasy sphere even if I do not agree with their potential breakout.

On a far less (or maybe more) important note, I think sleeper bats should also be referred to as slumber lumbers. Without further ado, here are the 2015 AL slumber lumbers.

2B Jonathan Schoop of the Baltimore Orioles

I am skeptical of Schoop to do anything outside of provide empty power. While I am generally huge on players who can slug the ball, I feel that Jonathan Schoop is limited to 15 homers and poor numbers in every other fantasy category.

OF Mookie Betts of the Boston Red Sox

Mookie Betts is arguably the most popular “sleeper” of the 2015 season. Therefore, he is no longer a sleeper since everyone already knows about him. It seems like Betts will go around picks 100-110 and that is a little high for me. I certainly like his floor, but I feel that other people value Mookie Betts higher than I do.

OF Rusney Castillo of the Boston Red Sox

Mookie Betts has another sleeper teammate in his outfield. I have no idea what Manager John Farrell ends up doing with the Boston outfield, but this is an important situation to follow. Like Betts, Rusney Castillo offers an appetizing power-speed combo.

OF Steven Souza of the Tampa Bay Rays

Projection systems are incredibly bullish on Steven Souza next season. I have seen multiple projections that expect Souza to put up a 20-20 season or very close to it. If these projections are even somewhat close to what Souza does in 2015, then you should absolutely draft this sleeper.

OF Adam Eaton of the Chicago White Sox

Eaton was a pretty big sleeper two years ago as a Diamondback, but he never seemed to stay healthy. Once again, Adam Eaton is appearing on sleeper lists, but he still needs to stay healthy to have his long overdue breakout.

OF Avisail Garcia of the Chicago White Sox

The White Sox outfield is chock full of upside as Avisail Garcia could hit .270+ with 15-20 homers at only 23 years of age. While I think Garcia may only have utility or bench value in 2014, he certainly will be at least worth a roster spot in almost all leagues, especially keepers.

OF Oswaldo Arcia of the Minnesota Twins

I had no idea that Arcia slugged 20 homers in only 103 games until I did the team preview for the Twins recently. I guess Minnesota can fly under the radar, but Oswaldo Arcia should no longer fly under yours because he could crush 25 to 30 home runs in 2015.

SS Brad Miller of the Seattle Mariners

I think Brad Miller can go .250 and hit 15 homers from the SS position. What is not to like if that is the production from a middle infielder drafted in the last rounds?
