Fantasy Baseball Stats: Daily All-Stars from September 2

Tuesday’s top fantasy baseball stats belonged to the hitters, with one exception that we probably could have guessed when we saw the day’s probable starting pitchers.

We’ll have to wait a few minutes for that, as we start the day with a guy that’s becoming more of a star every minute.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Stats MVP

Jose Altuve — Houston Astros

What a fantastic all-around day from Altuve and the rest of his Astros teammates. You expect the steal, you expect the hits, but getting a home run from Altuve feels great for his fantasy owners, I know from experience.

If he played on a better team and wasn’t in the same league as Mike Trout, Altuve would have a very real chance at winning the American League MVP Award in 2014. As it is, he won’t be far down in the voting.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Stats Honorable Mentions

1. Buster Posey — San Francisco Giants

[table id=1164 /]

A hot Posey in Coors Field against a poor pitching staff is going to have a big day. Posey did just about everything for the Giants on Tuesday, spearheading a come-from behind win.

Posey hadn’t been having a great season, at least by his standards. But as we saw in 2012, his hot streaks last a long, long time. Now, he’s playing more games at first base, which should keep him fresh and in the lineup pretty much every day. I wouldn’t want Posey on the team of my fantasy rivals right now.

2. Clayton Kershaw — Los Angeles Dodgers

[table id=1163 /]

Another stellar day from Kershaw, who’s the best pitcher in baseball by just about any metric that you could possibly find. What more can we really say about this guy, who may well be the National League MVP. As much as I don’t like pitchers getting those awards, I couldn’t put up much of an argument against him, and days like this are the reason why.

It doesn’t matter if he’s facing the worst offense, the best, or anything in between. The guy is just a stud and if he never throws another pitch after this year, may well be Hall of Fame bound anyway.

3. Tyler Flowers — Chicago White Sox

[table id=1165 /]

Flowers actually might have been about Kershaw or Posey, if only he helped more fantasy players. As it is, his performance on Tuesday was too good to ignore, but it helped basically nobody.

Flowers will never hit for a high average, but he can still have fantasy relevance beyond this year if he finds more of a consistent power stroke. I don’t see much value for the rest of the year, but I wouldn’t have minded him on any of my teams on Monday night.
