While we had some great pitching showdowns on Saturday, the day in fantasy baseball stats generally belonged to the hitters. Specifically, the power hitters.

We start with a guy that’s used to being the best.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Stats MVP

David Ortiz — Boston Red Sox

As we’ll see a bit later, the bats were out at Fenway on both sides, but nobody in Boston or anywhere else was anywhere near Big Papi. The Red Sox did a great job setting the table for Ortiz and as the numbers show, he did not disappoint.

Ortiz will be an interesting guy to monitor for the rest of the year. He’s obviously not a young guy anymore but the power is still there. His fantasy value will always be limited as a DH, but he should be as reliable a power bat as anyone in 2015.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Stats Honorable Mentions

1. Jedd Gyorko — San Diego Padres

[table id=1126 /]

We can’t always say this about the Padres, but one of their guys dominated at the plate, and the rest of them provided more than enough help. After battling injuries and poor play, Gyorko is due for a nice hot streak to finish this year. If you’re looking for a second baseman and Jedd’s available, hope that this game will trigger something.

The talent is there for Gyorko to be a relevant fantasy second baseman for 2015, and even the rest of 2014. Two things need to improve for that to happen, though.

  1. Consistency — That usually comes with experience.
  2. Better teammates — This the big question mark

The Padres haven’t been playing bad recently, but their offense has lacked for a long time. Gyorko has potential sleeper value if the San Diego hitters can get on base more.

2. Chris Carter — Houston Astros

[table id=1125 /]

Whether it’s long term or not remains to be seen, but Carter has gone from being a guy with big power and nothing else to the hottest overall hitter in the game. If you jumped on him early, as Craig Mellisas advised you to do, your offensive fantasy baseball stats are probably much, much better for it.

Enjoy the ride with Carter, unless he’s on your rival’s team. Then, hope for the best.
