If you’re a fan of slumping players that you feel are due to break out of a slump, you might have had a great day’s worth of fantasy baseball stats on Friday.
Our top guy hasn’t been terrible in 2014, but broke out a side of himself that we haven’t seen much this year.
Daily Fantasy Baseball Stats MVP
J.J. Hardy — Baltimore Orioles
J.J. Hardy: August 8
Hardy hasn’t hit for much power this year, but that message apparently did not get through to Nick Greenwood, who surrendered both of the long balls on Friday. The Orioles, in general, were just completely on point, but nobody was better than Hardy.
Hardy has struggled with power this year, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see him hit a few bombs coming in. If you need some help at the shortstop position, Hardy is not a bad option.
Daily Fantasy Baseball Stats Honorable Mentions
1. Carlos Beltran — New York Yankees
Carlos Beltran: August 8
A nice game for Beltran and the Yankees. He needs to hit for a little more power but even when he’s put the ball over the fence, his new teammates haven’t given him much help. Obviously that was not a problem on Friday night.
Beltran has now hit safely in 14 of his last 15 games, recording multiple hits in eight of them.
2. Nathan Eovaldi — Miami Marlins
Nathan Eovaldi: August 8
Okay, I feel pretty good saying this. When he’s facing the Reds, you want to start Eovaldi. He’d been ice cold coming into his last two starts, but has now shut the Big Red Machine down twice in a row.
We’ll have to see what kind of long term value it brings fantasy owners. The Reds are not a great offensive team this year, so the last two starts alone shouldn’t make fantasy players rush to him. But he’s had strong spurts throughout his career and a few more outings can make him an enticing play for the rest of 2014.
3. Rickie Weeks — Milwaukee Brewers
Adam Jones: August 8
Not bad for a game when he didn’t even start.
The stats were absolutely dominant, but probably not likely to be anything more than a one game thing. He’s still the right-handed part of a platoon, which obviously kills the at-bats. Still, if you’re one of the few who has Weeks, congratulations.
