The stars were out on Wednesday, as all four guys in today’s fantasy baseball stats recap are owned in pretty much every league.
We start with a guy that just missed the top spot yesterday, but pushed his way to the top with another great game.
Daily Fantasy Baseball MVP
David Ortiz — Boston Red Sox
David Ortiz: May 14
Big Papi just missed the top spot yesterday, but another two homer game against his former team got him there today. That’s four homers in his last two games, five in his last four, and a seven-game hitting steak in which he’s hit .517.
Ortiz’s fantasy value is somewhat limited, as he only has DH/UTL eligibility, but his numbers are about as reliable as anyone in the game.
Daily Honorable Mentions
1. Masahiro Tanaka — New York Yankees
Masahiro Tanaka: May 14
He may not win either award, but this is a contender for the AL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Awards right now.
Tanaka has thrown a quality start each time he’s taken the hill this year and this was the best of the bunch, absolutely dominating the Mets offense.
2. Hunter Pence — San Francisco Giants
Hunter Pence: May 14
If you had a chance to buy low on Pence, I hope you took it, because he’s really beginning to heat up quite a bit. As a person who’s watched a lot of baseball at AT&T Park, I can probably count on one hand how many right-handed hitters have hit a home run to where Pence’s landed on Wednesday.
Overall, he’s been hitting much better recently, as even most outs have been well hit.
3. Carlos Santana — Cleveland Indians
Carlos Santana: May 14
Santana gets the nod over teammate David Murphy because he’s owned in significantly more leagues. Much like Ortiz, Tanaka, and Pence, he’s red hot right now.
The two walks won’t help in a standard league, but they did help bolster the rest of his stats. You don’t exactly expect a stolen base from a guy like Santana, so that’s a definite bonus for fantasy owners.
