Mother’s Day produced some exciting baseball games. For the second day in a row, the top fantasy baseball stats were all provided by hitters, and hitters that are generally available.

We start with a hitter that brought his “A” game. I don’t even have any kids yet, but I have corny dad jokes nailed down.

Daily Fantasy Baseball MVP

Derek Norris — Oakland Athletics

The A’s were slugging on Sunday, and nobody’s stats benefited from that more than Norris. As we’ll soon see, 6 RBI definitely carries some luck, as someone can just as easily hit two homers with two RBI. But that doesn’t matter. He dominated the RBI department and because of that, here he is.

Unfortunately, Norris is a platoon catcher so there’s not much fantasy value there. Having said that, he has been quite effective when on the field, batting .385.

Daily Honorable Mentions

1. Hank Conger — Los Angeles Angels

[table id=717 /]

It was apparently a big day for platoon categories in the AL West. You’ll have to forgive us for not advising all of you, we did not get the memo. Conger was just dialed in at the dish against the Blue Jays, with all three of his hits driving in at least one run. Definitely not something you expect to see out of a No. 8 hitter.

Like Norris, Conger has been very effective when on the field. If, by chance, he gets more playing time, keep an eye on what he does.

2. Dustin Ackley — Seattle Mariners

[table id=716 /]

Sticking with our AL West theme for the day, we get Ackley. Obviously, he didn’t have quite the same luck that either Norris or Conger did in terms of men on base, but Ackley had quite a day himself. Ackley will be sad to see Kansas City pitching go, as the two homers today gave him three over the last two days.

Unfortunately for the Mariners, Ackley’s performance wasn’t quite good enough for a win. Our next guy is part of the reason for that.

3. Alcides Escobar — Kansas City Royals

[table id=718 /]

A grand slam in the second inning went a long way towards having a nice day, obviously supplying all four of Escobar’s RBI on the day. You definitely don’t expect days like this from the 8 hitter, so days like this are a definite bonus for those who do have Escobar on their fantasy teams.

Escobar is actually having a nice little season for himself. Like the other three guys today, he’s available in over half of the leagues, so not many people actually benefited from this. But he’s on track to steal nearly 50 bases and is far from killing people at the plate. Worth considering if you need a shortstop at some point.
