Some pitchers had some good fantasy baseball stats, but only one was able to make today’s list, as Friday was a very hitter-heavy day.
A few of the top hitters generally find themselves available on fantasy baseball waiver wires, but we start with one of the league’s top rookies.
Daily Fantasy Baseball MVP
Jose Abreu — Chicago White Sox
Jose Abreu: April 25
Abreu is on a pretty good power pace in the early season and is definitely making fantasy owners feel good about drafting him. I can speak from personal experience and say that he made what was a pretty rough head-to-head matchup at least more interesting heading into the weekend.
With the two homers, Abreu set the record for home runs by a rookie in April. In the process, he also hit a walk-off slam for the White Sox.
Daily Honorable Mentions
1. Erick Aybar — Los Angeles Angels
Erick Aybar: April 25
Aybar has been hot for the last few days. He’s hitting .647 over the last four games and finally showed a bit of pop on Friday.
He’s not having a great year and with his availability, unfortunately didn’t help many fantasy owners. Still, this was an absolutely monstrous game that shows what happens when a player having a good game gets help from teammates.
2. Nick Castellanos — Detroit Tigers
Nick Castellanos: April 25
Another American League rookie and while he’s not having quite the start that Abreu is, Castellanos is definitely giving fantasy owners and Tigers fans plenty of reason to be excited.
With a hot day on Friday, Castellanos has now hit safely in eight of the last nine games.
3. Stephen Strasburg — Washington Nationals
Stephen Strasburg: April 25
The WHIP for Friday’s start wasn’t great, but the 11 K’s and no earned runs more than made up for it.
Strasburg has had a few rough starts, but he’s got an unbelievable K/9 rate of 14. If the Nats really take the reigns off of him, this could be a fantastic year for Strasburg.
