The Messy First Round of the 2014 Fantasy Baseball Draft

Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

Trader X is one of my favorite people to interact with on Twitter. He’s known to often throw a curveball back at you when a question is asked.  This was true when I was surprised at who he’d draft with the 5th pick in the 1st Round of the 2014 Fantasy Baseball Draft.  Below is the Twitter exchange:

I think you can read from my tone on Twitter that I don’t agree with Yasiel Puig as the 5th pick, but I think you can also see that I’m having trouble pining down the clear-cut #5 pick. I prefer to draft someone more reliable and with a better tack record in the first round. Puig doesn’t fit that bill. But when pressed, maybe most of the other options don’t fit that bill either. Certainly there will be lots of analysis, speculating and discussion between now and the draft.

Spolier Alert: I’m leaning toward Robinson Cano and I think that would be Dixon’s Pick as well. But a possible change in scenery for Cano might make me rethink that.

What about you? Who would you take at #5? Let us know and please share your rationale in the comments.

And, as always, you can follow us on Twitter to interact there.

Who would you draft 5th in 2014?
