Ask Nash: Yoenis Ce-who-dis?

Yoennis Céspedes Milanés

So YOUR Oakland A’s picked up the coveted Yoenis Cespedes, and then brought in the not so coveted Manny Ramirez. How do you feel about these signings?

Christian, thanks for the question. As an A’s fan I am sooo excited about Yoenis, but am a little perplexed by the Manny signing.

Let’s just eliminate Manny Ramirez from the conversation until his suspension is over and we actually see what he has left at the plate.  However, I will say this: I might just toss out Manny in an auction draft. Worst case you get him for a buck and you were probably gonna drop a guy before the season anyway, and that may as well be Manny.

Now with Yoenis, he needs to be treated with patience. As of right now that A’s outfield is a bit crowded: Coco Crisp, Seth Smith, Jonny Gomes, Josh Reddick, Yoenis Cespedes, and Colin Cowgill.  Cespedes might not be a starter out of the gate, but then again if he is, he could easily slot in as the number 3 hitter on this team. I mean, who else is there?!?

This is absolutely a team I’ll be monitoring during Spring Training to see who will get at bats and who is batting where in the line-up.

As of right now I would maybe like Yoenis to start the season at AAA then come up to get around: 375-50-10-55-10-.265

But with so little to go on it’s tough to make a solid projection, given playing time uncertainty and having uncertain scouting reports, except for this beauty.

I will say this though – and I hope my league mates aren’t reading this – I’m gonna toss out Yoenis early in our auction to see if someone will drop double digits on him. And it might be me!

Friends, I’m running low on good “Ask Nash” questions. Please take 30 seconds right now to help me replenish the pool. Just comment on this post with any question you may have related to fantasy baseball, be it projecting an unknown player, lineup thoughts, playing time guesses, or trade, keeper, or roster advice. You ask, I’ll answer!
